It was meant to be a vacation within a vacation today. We didn’t have to catch any trains or buses, nor get up early for any fixed destination. Relaxingly, we made our own breakfast and then headed to the railway station to rent bikes.
At first, we biked towards the city center of Interlaken, where there is a big casino and park. From there, we cycled all the way to Lake Brienz. The weather was perfect, though a bit hot, but being by the lakeside was pleasant. Most of the route along the lake was shady, which was a big relief.
We took some time off at the lakeshore in a shady spot, listening to Indian classical instrumental music on the iPod. It was incredibly relaxing – the sound of water waves combined with the serenity of the lake. Words fail to describe how we felt. It was a perfect escape from the life we know. A strange question arose: why do we need to go so far from home to find peace?
Anyway, we came back to the hotel for a very late lunch, and Santanu wanted to take a siesta. Suddenly, it started raining cats and dogs. We felt lucky to have enjoyed the top of Europe yesterday. The rain continued for three hours, and we had to ride in the rain to return the bikes. Pff… :( It stopped just after we returned them.
