Santanu's Project 42

Colored: Completed | Dark Gray: Planned

Completed: 19 / 36

States/UT covered:

While looks like have just half way mark in the numbers but I have covered almost 2/3 area of India with these states & UT. Check out my colored map for the same.

  1. Running along the Bay of Bengal — a coastal marathon with some oceanfront views and fishing village.

  2. Running where Buddha attained enlightenment — a spiritual journey through ancient temples and sacred grounds. Passing Mahabodhi Temple, Sujata Garh, Dhramaranya Temple & Dungeswari Cave.

  3. Epic marathon chaos — lost gear, deserted roads, and 42.2 km of agony saved by random strangers along the way.

  4. Running through the heart of India's capital — historic monuments, wide boulevards, and the energy of Delhi.

  5. Beach vibes and river views — running through Goa's scenic backwaters and coastal paradise. First time I was alone and came there directly from Guwahati and second time was real fun with UW gang.

  6. Running through the cultural capital of Gujarat — palaces, museums, and the warmth of Baroda.

  7. Fall colors to freezing starts — a 42 km journey through heaven on earth, my solo run experience through the heart of Kashmir.

  8. Home ground advantage — running through Bangalore's tree-lined streets(whatever is left) and tech corridors where I live and train.

  9. God's Own Country on foot — running through Kerala's backwaters, spice-scented air, and coastal charm.

  10. World's highest marathon at 11,500 feet — two weeks in Ladakh for two races including the Khardungla Challenge at 17,618 feet.

  11. Tough climbs, monsoon downpour, and 42.2 km through Madhya Pradesh hills, bit off track location to explore as well.

  12. India's biggest marathon — running through the city that never sleeps, from Marine Drive to the finish line spectacle.

  13. Running in one of the wettest places on Earth — It was a one way run from Shillong outskirts to Sohra.

  14. A run through the experimental township — peaceful roads, red earth trails, and the unique Auroville atmosphere.

  15. The race is well organized, flat course and good prize money for fast runners. Myself enjoyed lots of street foods.

  16. First Sunday of the year, very well organized run by Chennai runners. It is humid and hot even in January.

  17. Hyderabad is always close to my heart, ran 10 times there but mostly half marathons. My first sub 4 was in 2016, thank to Pani Sir's training. And second time in 2023 was last long run before heading to Leh for KC.

  18. A challenging 50km road out-and-back: 25km of shadeless climbing (1,200m gain) followed by a pure downhill return.

  19. Running through City of Joy — colonial architecture, Victoria Memorial, and the soul of Kolkata.

Planned: 5 / 36

Upcoming States/UT Marathons

There are miles to go before hanging up the shoes; having lost a couple of years to COVID, the goal is to accomplish as much as possible before turning 55.

  1. Tawang Marathon

Running in India's easternmost state — monasteries, mountain passes, and the Land of the Rising Sun.

  2. Gateway to the Northeast — running along the mighty Brahmaputra through Assam's cultural capital.

  3. India's most planned city — wide roads, perfect geometry, and fast times on Le Corbusier's architectural masterpiece.

  4. Spiti Marathon

High-altitude adventure through the Spiti Valley — remote mountain landscapes and thin air challenges await.

  5. Running from Amritsar Golden Temple to the India-Pakistan border — a unique marathon organized by Border Security Force of India.
