Oof! It’s been maddening. Santanu has been trying his best to make the computer work, but there’s no response, no sound…nothing. He’s tried everything he could—took it on his lap, dismantled everything like one of those computer geeks trying to fix that darn thing. But alas, everything was in vain. The connections and all seemed fine except for the fan, which was rotating at such a speed, making a hell of a noise. It’s almost dead.
The CPU was showing 116°C. He contacted INTEL support, and their response was that since he wasn’t using the CPU fan provided by them for cooling, he had voided the warranty. However, according to Shuttle, their system is Intel Certified, so he’s supposed to use the ICE (Integrated Cooling Engine) for cooling the CPU and system. He posted the issue on Sudhian, but it didn’t raise many eyebrows. It seems too mean for any mini PC or hardware support with a big name.
Anyway, thinking he might have to spend money on new hardware, he took the whole system to Surcouf. They told him at the reception to be ready to pay a minimum of 19 Euros for diagnosis and other charges. All the technicians there didn’t seem worried about Static Electricity at all. According to them, it’s a system problem, so they sent it to Shuttle.
In a way, he’s lucky because the system is still under warranty. Now, he has to wait a minimum of 4 weeks for any updates, which means it will have to wait until he returns from his trip to India. “Waqai, tujh bin…jiyu kaisey” (Indeed, how can I live without you). This computer world has become so integrated into his private life that he can hardly think of himself without it. La vie sans net est difficile à vivre (see, he can speak a bit of French even in a frustrated mood).
